Other Ways to Help Us Pay Off Our Mortgage
We at the Homeless Voice consider our shelters a part of the community. Therefore we encourage tours of our facilities. We want you to know where your money goes. We want you to see the people you help. So our place is open for your inspection. We also allow any group, church, or community member as well as school to do penny drives or what we call NETWORK MARKETING FUNDRASING. This means that you develop a list of people who can set up a Network of Donations. To this day even with all the press we get as taking the most troubled homeless and the fact that we take the ones who cannot get in to other more traditional shelters, people still think we just sell a newspaper and have no idea what so ever that the money raised goes to shelters and all of our agencies. So not only will you be helping raising funds but you will help educate the community. Volunteers are available to speak at your association or group. Read below how you can set up your marketing plan so we can pay off the Mortgage. For instance the following can be done.
Block Captain Plan:
This is when you actually go door to door in your own community asking that your friends that live in your immediate area make a donation to you. Then at the end of the month you send in the money and the information. We figure if we can get about 1400 members from the community and each member raises about $500.00 then we are done paying off the mortgage. This will help us become a better agency.
Network Marketing Fundraising Plan:
This is when you get 10 people to each donate $20.00 or any other amount depending what your friends and family can afford to donate. After the first ten people donate $20.00 you have raised $200.00. Then you will also ask each of those ten people to do the same thing, meaning they each must get another ten people to also donate $20.00, which now brings in an additional $2000.00. It can go even further and make even more donations happen.
Church Matthew Plan:
Plan A:
This plan can happen in two ways. The first plan would be to have your church either do a Penny Drive or make a direct contribution of $1000.00. This means we only need about 700 churches to make a $1000.00 donation and then there you have it our mortgage paid off. About 60 percent of our time is consumed trying to raise the $122,000 a month to keep our doors open to serve the homeless. If the mortgage was paid off we could bring our monthly budget down by about $10,000 a month therefore allowing us to spend less time on Fundraising and more time can be devoted to helping the poor.
Plan B:
Presently we must sell the Homeless Voice every month to keep our doors open and it is very hard to do considering the cities make it more and more difficult to sell the paper on the streets even though they all use our service. One day they are arresting our vendor for selling the paper and the next day their cruisers are dropping off their homeless to our front doors. Then there is the rain that interferes with us selling our paper. If it rains three days for the month it means we did not raise $12,000.00. With all this happening we are trying to go with monthly partners. This means if we could get all the churches in Broward, Dade, and Palm Beach to send in a monthly check in the amount of $125.00 a month and if only 600 churches sent in their monthly support we would not have to sell a paper. We must tell you that the paper does educate the public and by the homeless getting up to go to work, working their eight hour shift, working with the public, and working with others allows them to regain the self esteem they need to get out of their situation. From this we never want to get rid of the paper but we do not want to solely depend on the paper. In the future we hope to be able to pass out the paper for free and pay the homeless an hourly rate for six months to pass the paper out for free. Then after six months they can look for other employment and recover their maximum ability. I leave you, with this message:
How do we go to church and worship a Homeless Man on Sunday, yet ignore others who are homeless the rest of the week. Many churches call us for placement of a homeless person who comes to their church for help and we only have a few churches that help us out routinely.
This is your shelter as well as ours and we all need to work together to help us do our job more efficiently.
Don't forget churches, your church can come in any weeknight and feed our sheep the Word of God as well as getting rid of the word starving. We as a team can keep this place going.
We know in our hearts that if you looked at how we keep our doors open with our business plan it should not really work. To think the homeless raised the money to buy the main shelter and then they run the shelters it is proof that God has His hands in this place. We are not the smart ones who made this happen because when you look at the total picture it is amazing it really works. God has given us the wisdom to make it all work. Thank you Lord......
