The Cononie Family Foundation, TheShelter and the Homeless Voice will be starting a day program for people who have an aspiration to become an artist using paints.It will be every two weeks at the 1203 North Federal Highway shelter, space is limited.
The service is free to anyone who disabled and if their SSI or SSDIis under $1,000.00.Lunch will be provided free of charge. At this time we are taking supplies for donations.will be free for all participants.The $150 fee for supplies will be paid for by the aforementioned three foundations if donations are short.
This is an attempt to have the people in the classes get their mind off of their problems and to use art therapy .If you are interested in sending your clients please send us an email or have your clients send an email.may call 954-925-6466 if they do not have access to the Internet.
We will need to see proof of fundsthose who want the supplies for free.those who have income$1000.00 per month itwill be a slidingon donations from the public and/ or they may get another agency to pay the fee of $150.00buy their own supplies from us or any local art store.
We are also taking donations of old paintings to recycle the canvases.If the client does have an income of over $1,000 per month we may be able to still fit them in for free if they have proof of other expenses such as large co pays on their. can bring their own supplies then there is no fee what so ever.Sean to go ahead and teach the first art therapy course for now.
He took his first student, and him a canvas and a set of paints.Sean started to paint his Abstract and so did Chris.In one hour Chris created what Sean thought was a real nice painting.Sean asked Chris how much he wanted for his Masterpiece.
Chris replied “$25"then Sean said that was too cheap and offered Chris $50 and Chris gladly accepted the offer. According to Sean, Chris jumped up off the floor and was totally happy with the results of his first painting at the school. Sean on the other hand created his own Abstract titled, “Confused First”.
In the future, the shelter will have several Art Auctions where the students can sell their own paintings and keep all the money. Thepublic can either donate their own work or sell it at the auction and agree to make a donation if their work is bought.
Cononie, who already has sold art items in the past will also make special painting's to donate as well as selling some of his own work and making donations off of the sales. Cononie added “not only will the clients receive therapy, make a little money, but they will also learn business skills about cost to produce, what price to sell it for to make a profit, how to set up business books and marketing skills.
