During hard economic times it is important to help kids that do not have parents capable of buying anything for Christmas. This year there have been high foreclosures, high gas prices, increasing costs, and a poor job market.
All of these contribute to the issues facing kids over holiday seasons. Therefore, if you have the opportunity to volunteer your time, or the ability to donate toys, it brightens their lives. For instance, on December 6, 2008, Overtown Folk Life Festival had scheduled a toy drive and special celebrity performances to make a great experience.
Events such as these make great opportunities to give back without taking out your entire day as well.Participating in toy drives by handing out toys or donating will make the holiday seasons feel a lot better for you and the kids.
As this volatile economy moves forward, we must expect that more time and love will be needed for kids that have their world turned inside out. Allowing them to escape from worries by giving them hope that someone cares is the best gift of all. Hopefully, high school students and older will take the initiative to share their time and effort.
Best of all, events like these usually provide great sources for volunteer hours. In summary, toy drives make the holidays brighter for kids because it allows them to feel normal while they play.
Play time is where creativity and growth occur. Making someone else feel special is a great gift that lasts a lifetime.Volunteering takes place all year long, not just during the holidays. Keep that in mind as you shop the winter sales racks and go through your things at home. Look online to find a toy drive or drop off near you.
